In June 2001, the Louisiana Legislature
approved a bill to expand LSU Alexandria to a four-year degree granting institution.
A substantive change request was approved by the Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools in December 2002 and four-year programs will become part of the campus'
curriculum in 2003.

Alexandria is located six miles south of Alexandria in central Rapides Parish.
As one of nine campuses that make up the LSU System, LSU Alexandria's enrollment
stands at just under 3,100 students. Accepting its first students in the fall
of 1960, the campus has served the associate degree needs of the central Louisiana
communities for more than 42 years.

The academic organization of the Baton Rouge campus consists
of the College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Sciences, College of Arts
and Humanities, College of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering,
College of Sciences, Honors College, Junior Division, School of Architecture,
School of Nursing, School of Public and Urban Affairs, and the Graduate School.
Also included in the organization are the divisions of Military Science (Army
ROTC), Naval Sciences and Continuing Education. The Baton Rouge campus is located
on Scott's Bluff overlooking the Mississippi River in the northern section of
the city of Baton Rouge. The city parish has a population of more than 500,000
and serves a cultural, political, educational, and industrial center for South
